O-Uchi-Gari Technique in Judo

Judo is one of the most popular martial arts that you can find these days. There are various moves that you need to learn in judo. Basically, judo’s moves can be categorized into several types. There are throwing moves, grappling moves, and defense moves. In this article, I will give you quick tutorial about one of the throwing moves in judo. This throwing technique is called O-Uchi-Gari. O-Uchi-Gari is a throwing technique that is done by tackling or locking from the inside with your foot. This technique is also known as large inner clip or large inner reap. If you want to perform this technique perfectly, you need to break the balance of your opponent first. Once your opponent has lost his balance, his body will lean to the left or to the back.

O-Uchi-Gari Technique in Judo

When your opponent’s body lean to the left or to the back and he has lost his balance, you can tackle or lock him with your right foot. Use your right feet to lock your opponent’s left foot. By doing this, your opponent will fall behind. To perform O-Uchi-Gari, the first thing that you should do is using the basic right grip move. This move allows you to grip your opponent by using your right hand. Once you grip your opponent, the next thing that you should do is moving forward to your opponent. When you move forward to your opponent, it’s very important for you to make sure that you move with perfect balance. Balance is the most essential key in performing judo moves. Without balance, you will not be able to perform O-Uchi-Gari technique properly.

After you move forward to your opponent, the next move that you should do is pulling your opponent’s body using your right hand. This pulling movement is also known as Hikite in judo and it’s considered as one of the basic moves in judo. By pulling your opponent’s body, you will be able to move forward once again and place your left feet on the right side of your opponent. This position will allow you to perform further movements in O-Uchi-Gari technique. Before your opponent makes his move and place his sole on tatami, you need to slip his right feet as fast as possible so that the back of your knee is against the back of your opponent’s knee. It’s very important to perform this move as fast as possible so that you can lock or tackle your opponent.

Once the back of your knee is against the back of your opponent’s knee, you can tackle or lock your opponent’s foot by using one big circling move to your right back side. Without reducing the power of your left hand’s grip, you need to push your opponent down by using your right hand and clip his left foot so that your opponent will fall behind. This pushing movement is also known as Oshite in judo. When you perform the attack, you need to turn your opponent’s hips to the left so that you can clip your opponent’s foot. You should avoid clipping to the upside of your opponent’s body by using your right foot and should lower your hips instead so that the clipping move that you made is more effective.
